LaFortune grew up in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.
He was given a 35 mm camera at an early age and his first images
were of mountains and lakes in Oregon and Idaho where he published
a regional guide book of the area. His interest in the natural world
expanded
as he became an avid backpacker, mountain biker, mountain climber
and backcountry skier.
His
appreciation for nature continued and in 1988 he spent the summer
working on a fire-lookout in Central Idaho. In 2000 he started diving
and four years later became an instructor. In combination with traveling
around the world, he has seen and dove extensively in over twenty
eight countries including the Caribbean, Central America, Australia
and Thailand. A fortunate opportunity occurred when he got to work
in an underwater photo shop and combined with a background in theatre,
writing and art, his passion for photography has expanded to film
and videography. Michael shoots primarily in HD and currently produces
film and video for Arcturus Productions with an emphasis in global
productions involving social and environmental issues. He resides
in Bonaire N.A.
